Our sin has separated us from God.
"... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23
Understand you are a sinner.
1. Do you know what sin is or what it means? Sin means to miss the mark. Sin refers to wrong things like lying, cheating, disobedience, murder, etc.
2. What do you think it means to fall short of God's glory? God's glory is His holiness, His perfection. You and I fall short because we don't measure up to God's perfection.
3. Would you agree that you are a sinner and fall short of God's glory (perfection)? We are all sinners, and we all fall short.
4. As a sinner, are you guilty or innocent before God? Guilty.
We can do nothing to remove our sin. God requires the payment for sin to be paid.
"The wages (penalty) of sin is death.." Romans 6:23a
Understand there is a penalty for your sin.
1. What does God say is the wages or penalty of sin? Death.
2. How would you define death? Death actually means separation. When a person dies, their soul separates from their physical body. Because this verse mentions eternal life, we know there must be eternal death. So, there is eternal separation from God because of sin.
3. Where do you think a person spends eternity separated from God? Hell.
At the cross, Jesus did for us what we couldn't do for ourselves. He died on the cross and shed His blood to pay for our sins.
"...even though we are sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
Believe Jesus paid the penalty for your sin.
1. How did God show His love for you? He sent His perfect Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for your sins.
2. Do you remember what is the penalty of sin? Death.
3. What did Jesus do for you? He died for you, and He paid your penalty.
Through faith, we freely receive forgiveness and eternal life.
"... The free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 6:23b
Believe that eternal life is a gift you must receive by faith.
1. What does God give as a gift? Eternal life.
2. Why is this gift provided only through Jesus Christ? Because He is the one who paid the penalty for sin on the cross.
3. What happened to Jesus after He died on the cross? He rose from the dead three days later.
"... if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9
We invite you to receive Jesus Christ as your Savior.
1. What does it mean to confess the Lord Jesus? It means to agree that Jesus is God and is the only one who can provide eternal life.
2. What does God say you must believe? Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
3. What are you saved from by believing in Jesus? Saved from the penalty of sin, which is eternal death in hell.
Pray: Dear God, I am a sinner, and I need to be forgiven. I believe Jesus Christ, your Son, died from my sins and rose from the dead. I turn away from my sin and now confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and receive Him into my life. I ask you, Lord Jesus, to control my life and thank you for giving me eternal life.
